The
NSDF08 selection process in detail
The Entry Form
Send your
completed entry form along with the Entry Fee of £95 (made
payable to NSDF) to Catherine McKinney, NSDF Administrator,
19-20 Rheidol Mews, London, N1 8NU. When NSDF have
received your completed entry form we will ring or email you
with information about who your Selector will be and
instructions about sending in scripts if the production is a
piece of new writing.

Between Entering and
Performing
We ask you
to keep two tickets reserved for each performance to cover
all contingencies. You should inform us about any extra
performances or changes to your cast schedule as soon as
they occur.
As soon as
you have entered your show, NSDF will put you on their
e-flyer database, which means you will receive regular
updates about NSDF is doing, you will also be able to
contribute to the e-flyer by sending us information about
your productions which we will then forward.
Your Selector
Catherine
McKinney will inform you of whom your Selector is and make
sure that contact numbers are exchanged. Catherine McKinney
will confirm with you when and how the Selector is getting
there. You may need to help with directions. Catherine
McKinney will confirm where you are to meet them before your
show and where the discussion will take place after the
show.
Your Performance
Wherever
possible your Selector will try to attend your first
performance. If your performance space is shared with
others, making your get-in time very limited, we give
sympathetic consideration to requests that the Selector
comes to the second performance, provided that the run is
for three days or more.
Changes to your Production
Selectors
will often make suggestions, which they hope will improve
productions – they are not there to redirect your show but
help with the things that you are not sure are working.
Exceptionally, a Selector will want to recommend a
production only if the company makes certain changes to its
original show. A Second Selector could then return to see
the revised production at a later date - at no extra cost to
the company provided that the offer came from NSDF. A Second
Selector may also come and see your show if the original
Selector is not sure about something – this is not a good or
bad sign.
Entering The Same Show Twice
It is
perfectly acceptable to enter the same show twice but a
second Entry Fee and at least three weeks notice are needed.
If you are selected
If you are
invited to perform at
NSDF08,
there will be just four weeks for us to work together to
ensure that you have an amazing time. It is imperative that
you meet all deadlines. This section explains most of what
you need to do in order to achieve this.

Technical Day - Saturday 3rd
March 2007
Once
selected, you are required to come to the Technical Day in
Scarborough, to get to know your Venue and discuss with the
Director and the Technical Director how your transfer to the
festival will work. Our Technical Director, Anna Cole, will
discuss all technical matters with you so that you have the
most productive week possible.
Your
Selector and the Technical Director will have spent time
deciding on the best possible venue for your production and
your Selector will already have spoken to you at length
about the transfer process and how they hope your show will
work in your venue.
Click here to see the Venues and
meet the technical team and get a feel for the Festival.
Technical Provision
NSDF08
will provide a theatre space, basic lanterns, lighting
control equipment and a basic sound system in each venue.
Groups must be prepared to supply, or pay for, any extra
equipment themselves, but only by arrangement with our
Technical Director on tech day. We strongly recommend that
you bring with you your own technicians, who will be
supported by the NSDF Technical Team.
Click here to find out what technical information you will
need to submit to NSDF if you are selected.
Time Limits
We can
only guarantee you six hours in the venue before your first
performance time. Keep this in mind when planning your
production. If your show is technically very complex you may
be able to negotiate more time with the Technical Director
at the Technical Day. All limits agreed will be strictly
adhered to and professional standards of procedure and
conduct will be laid down and expected.
Programme Copy
Selected
productions are required to submit a cast list and 50-word
paragraph for the Festival programme. Ian Abbott should
receive these no later than
Monday 5th March 2007.
Selected Company Subscription
Tickets
Throughout
the year we sell Subscription Tickets which guarantee entry
to all productions, workshops and events at NSDF08. Cost of
Subscription Tickets for Selected Companies will be at the
specially discounted price of £85 for each student. You will
need to order them by Wednesday 7th March 2007.
Rehearsing and Performing at
NSDF08
To book
rehearsal space at the Festival you will need to the Local
Organiser Team Leaders. They will be present on Technical
Day and will help you schedule rehearsals.
The number of
performances you will be asked to give at NSDF06 depends on
the audience capacity of your venue - usually anything from
two to five performances.

happy with these conditions then sign the Entry Form. If not
then please ring Holly Kendrick and discuss any queries with
her. We will try to solve problems and be as flexible as
possible in order to allow you to take part. For example,
small companies may find it impossible to provide
technicians for the Technical Crew and, equally, large
companies may not all be able to attend for the whole week
of the Festival. We understand this and if you talk to us we
can come to an appropriate agreement.
